Silver Ore Market Size in CIS

The CIS silver ore market reduced markedly to $X in 2021, declining by -34.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silver ore exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Russia (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2021.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the silver ores and concentrates exports, with a CAGR of -11.3% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest silver ore supplier in the CIS.

In Russia, silver ore exports declined by an average annual rate of -8.0% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -22.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Russia amounted to +3.7% per year.

Imports in CIS

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of silver ores and concentrates increased by 429% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 10,424%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silver ore imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 6,989%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 98% of total imports in 2021. Russia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the silver ores and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +84.2% from 2012 to 2021. Russia (-19.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan increased by +95 percentage points.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported silver ores and concentrates in the CIS, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 0.3% share of total imports.

In Kazakhstan, silver ore imports expanded at an average annual rate of +59.0% over the period from 2012-2021.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 191%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-3.4%).
