Dolomite Market Size in MENA

In 2021, the MENA's dolomite market increased by 10% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dolomite production expanded rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Dolomite exports soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 36% against 2020 figures. Overall, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dolomite exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 128%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - together made up 7.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +12.2%. At the same time, Turkey (+24.0%) and Oman (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +24.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +2.3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in MENA, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, dolomite exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+18.0% per year) and Oman (+9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 9.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 37%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

Dolomite imports surged to X tons in 2021, picking up by 28% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 243%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed moderate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Qatar (X tons) represented the key importer of dolomite, generating 40% of total imports. Tunisia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Israel (X tons). All these countries together held near 49% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dolomite imports, with a CAGR of +135.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+53.2%), Egypt (+29.1%), Tunisia (+13.9%), Algeria (+12.1%) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Israel (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Qatar (+40 p.p.), Egypt (+4.2 p.p.) and Bahrain (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Algeria and Israel saw its share reduced by -2.7% and -35.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest dolomite importing markets in MENA were Algeria ($X), Qatar ($X) and Egypt ($X), with a combined 49% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Qatar, with a CAGR of +66.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -11.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 100% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
