For the third year in a row, the SADC embroidery market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by X% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption saw a pronounced reduction. Exports in SADC

In 2022, approx. X tons of embroidery (without visible ground) in the piece were exported in SADC; rising by X% on 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, embroidery exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X kg) and Lesotho (X kg), together committing a X% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lesotho (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Mauritius (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (X p.p.) and Lesotho (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Mauritius (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest embroidery supplier in SADC, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lesotho ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In South Africa, embroidery exports shrank by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lesotho (X% per year) and Mauritius (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a perceptible decline. South Africa represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X tons), Seychelles (X tons) and Madagascar (X tons), together generating a X% share of total imports. Zambia (X kg), Mozambique (X kg) and Mauritius (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zambia (X%), Madagascar (X%), Botswana (X%), Mozambique (X%) and Seychelles (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Mauritius experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Botswana, Madagascar, Seychelles, Zambia and Mozambique increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest embroidery importing markets in SADC were South Africa ($X), Madagascar ($X) and Mauritius ($X), together accounting for X% of total imports.

Madagascar, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while Botswana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Seychelles (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
