Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded X% of total exports. Togo (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total exports. Ghana (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Cote d'Ivoire increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Togo (X%) and Senegal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Ghana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Togo (X p.p.) and Senegal (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.

Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Nigeria (X tons) was the major importer of cosmetics, comprising X% of total imports. Mali (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Guinea (X%), Senegal (X%), Burkina Faso (X%), Benin (X%), Mauritania (X%), Ghana (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%).

Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of cosmetics. At the same time, Mali (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Senegal (X%), Mauritania (X%), Guinea (X%) and Burkina Faso (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Benin (X%) and Ghana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest cosmetics importing markets in Western Africa were Nigeria ($X), Senegal ($X) and Guinea ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Mali, Mauritania, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Benin and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Mali, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the import price in Western Africa amounted to $X per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
