Chestnut Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2023
In November 2023, the average chestnut import price amounted to $2,773 per ton, waning by -1.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 29% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,162 per ton. From September 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +1.2% per month.
Chestnut Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022
The average chestnut export price stood at $114 per ton in 2022, declining by -96.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,829 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($1,542 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($11 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Chestnut Imports in Thailand
In 2022, approx. 6.5K tons of chestnuts were imported into Thailand; with an increase of 93% on the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chestnut imports skyrocketed to $16M in 2022.
