Ferro-Chromium Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average ferro-chromium import price amounted to $1,822 per ton, surging by 5.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 27% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,521 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($2,259 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,365 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Ferro-Chromium Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023
The average ferro-chromium export price stood at $8,093 per ton in September 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $10,011 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,209 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($4,155 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Ferro-Chromium Imports in Japan
In 2022, imports of ferro-chromium into Japan totaled 617K tons, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 15%.
In value terms, ferro-chromium imports surged to $1.4B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
