Ghee Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average ghee export price amounted to $2,106 per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 20% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,146 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Mexico ($2,348 per ton) and Canada ($2,101 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belize ($1,752 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,752 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ghee Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average ghee import price stood at $4,621 per ton in August 2023, jumping by 53% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a temperate increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, ghee import price decreased by -27.4% against March 2023 indices. The import price peaked at $6,366 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($7,608 per ton), while the price for India ($1,867 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ghee Exports in the United States
Ghee exports from the United States surged to 16K tons in 2022, jumping by 22% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 129% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, ghee exports dropped rapidly to $31M in 2022. In general, exports showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 176%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $38M, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Ghee Imports in the United States
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of ghee, when their volume increased by 87% to 21K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn.
In value terms, ghee imports skyrocketed to $71M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment.
