In November 2023, the average import price for butter and other fats and oils derived from milk amounted to $5,195 per ton, surging by 9.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,995 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($7,778 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($4,503 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $6,404 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($6,598 per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($3,324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas purchases of butter and other fats and oils derived from milk decreased by -5.8% to 54K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 1.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 78K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
