In May 2023, the average import price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground amounted to $4,764 per ton, waning by -41.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 152% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $8,175 per ton, and then shrank dramatically in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($7,138 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($2,013 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for spices; ginger, crushed or ground stood at $6,242 per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 63% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,243 per ton in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($9,253 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($1,493 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
