Rapeseed Oil Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average rapeseed oil import price stood at $1,646 per ton in August 2023, growing by 7.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,976 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Canada.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Canada amounted to -1.4% per month.
Rapeseed Oil Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average rapeseed oil export price amounted to $1,873 per ton, growing by 12% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,285 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($3,308 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,063 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rapeseed Oil Imports in the United States
In 2022, approx. 2.1M tons of rapeseed oil were imported into the United States; picking up by 8.7% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 11%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, rapeseed oil imports surged to $4B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Rapeseed Oil Exports in the United States
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of rapeseed oil, when their volume decreased by -38.5% to 99K tons. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 161K tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
In value terms, rapeseed oil exports declined significantly to $145M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $188M, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
