Spices; Turmeric (Curcuma) Price in Peru (FOB) - 2022

In 2021, the average spices; turmeric (curcuma) export price amounted to $2,520 per ton, with a decrease of -11% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 37%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,869 per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,737 per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($996 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Dominican Republic (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, spices; turmeric (curcuma) import price decreased by -17.6% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 134%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,004 per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($24,254 per ton), while the price for India ($1,644 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 59%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, spices; turmeric (curcuma) exports expanded significantly to $8.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -7.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $9.4M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
