Sweet Biscuit Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average sweet biscuit export price amounted to $11,360 per ton, falling by -12.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 91% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $23,634 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($24,370 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($4,866 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Sweet Biscuit Price in Japan (CIF) - 2022

The average sweet biscuit import price stood at $6,440 per ton in 2022, which is down by -24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 33%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $23,258 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($38,892 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,655 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Sweet Biscuit Exports in Japan

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of sweet biscuits, when their volume decreased by -16.3% to 890 tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.1K tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, sweet biscuit exports dropped to $12M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +28.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $14M, and then fell in the following year.

Sweet Biscuit Imports in Japan

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of sweet biscuits decreased by -56% to 15 tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 66% against the previous year.

In value terms, sweet biscuit imports declined significantly to $95K in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year.
