Wire and Cable Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average wire and cable import price amounted to $23,145 per ton, rising by 91% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a resilient expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, wire and cable import price increased by +91.0% against June 2023 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($32,622 per ton), while the price for India ($8,894 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wire and Cable Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023
The average wire and cable export price stood at $15,040 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 27% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 100% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $20,748 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($43,150 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($5,697 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wire and Cable Imports in Australia
In 2022, approx. 132K tons of insulated wire and cable were imported into Australia; picking up by 1.7% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, wire and cable imports rose notably to $1.6B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Wire and Cable Exports in Australia
For the third year in a row, Australia recorded decline in shipments abroad of insulated wire and cable, which decreased by -19% to 8K tons in 2022. Overall, exports faced a significant decline.
