The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton fabric exports contracted to $X in 2023. South Africa represented the major exporter of woven fabrics of cotton in SADC, with the volume of exports reaching X square meters, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Madagascar (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Lesotho (X%). The following exporters - Mauritius (X square meters), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X square meters) and Tanzania (X square meters) - each recorded a X% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Lesotho (X%), Madagascar (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Mauritius experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Lesotho (X p.p.) and South Africa (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Tanzania (X p.p.), Mauritius (X p.p.) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cotton fabric supplying countries in SADC were South Africa ($X), Madagascar ($X) and Lesotho ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Lesotho, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per square meter in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2023, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per square meter, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when the import price increased by X%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per square meter), while Tanzania ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
