Spice Price in Oman (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice import price amounted to $2,479 per ton, surging by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spice import price decreased by -1.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,513 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($3,872 per ton), while the price for China ($757 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Oman (FOB) - 2022
The average spice export price stood at $2,420 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -19.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,424 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($6,341 per ton), while the average price for exports to Somalia ($1,243 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Imports in Oman
In 2022, purchases abroad of spices decreased by -9.7% to 22K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 27K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spice imports reduced to $54M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $67M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Spice Exports in Oman
In 2022, shipments abroad of spices decreased by -29.8% to 1.3K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 2.5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spice exports dropped markedly to $3M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 183%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $8.4M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
